Creating a UX scorecard and benchmarking system to measure ROI in UX

The Challenge:

I found that the current UX analysis system I was using at an agency was too generalized. It did not include a focused UX assessment that entailed a detailed analysis of what to improve and there was no established benchmarking system in place to see if what we designed was, in fact, effective.

The Solution:

I put myself through Nielsen Norman’s training courses on UX metrics, UX assessments, the ROI of UX, Emotion and Persuasion in Design, and CXL’s courses on conversion optimization to help me gain the knowledge base to bring our agency.

I created a UX Assessment Scorecard with detailed scoring of 342 items in these key areas:

  • Overall website and competitor analysis

  • heuristic analysis on all key pages, IA, and mobile

  • emotional processing and persuasive design

  • UX best practices in content design, user flow

  • HEART Framework for benchmarking
