We are missing something big between Artsy and Etsy: inventing an e-commerce platform cooperative for artists by artists
Problem Statement: Artists make 30 cents for a stock photo image on stock websites. Instagram and Facebook are good promotional tools but they are typically not where sales take place. Being found on Etsy is difficult as similar search terms as yours sell from $5 to $5000, and it is hard to find good artists on Etsy if you don't already know about them since there are 2.5M sellers. Artsy (and similar sites) cater and work within the official art world only; if you are not in that gallery/agent/business then using these sites to sell isn't possible. Saatchi is as close as it comes and they have 65,000 artists, which is quite a lot to distill through.
Hypothesis: By offering an e-commerce art platform for artists that works as an online art collective model, the most value can be provided to artists and fill an empty space in current online art commerce. How the algorithm learns, Invitations, membership, master classes, subscription streaming, e-commerce, local hubs, and dividends would be central to how the online collective started and grew.
All this revenue could be going to artist-owned e-commerce worker cooperatives:
